How To Achieve The Baddest Twist Out Ever
Every now and again we will hear a woman with natural hair complain about not being able to perfect her twist out. Listen! I get it, it took me years to perfect my twist out and even then I still prefer a braid out for fool proof styling.
In this post I want to give you 6 tips on how you can perfect your twist out ambitions and slay the style everytime you do it.
1. Start with clean hair
Wash and deep condition your hair so that you can ensure your hair has enough moisture to last all week long. When you cleanse your hair first you can guarantee that your hair is free of old product and debris that will change the outcome of the style. To get the same result every time, you have to start with a fresh foundation.
2. Section the hair
Detangle the hair and divide it into 4 separate sections so that you can keep your hair organized as you begin the process. When you work section by section you can focus on thing at a time without tangles.
3. Work one section at a time and add your products using the LOC method
Use the LOC method when setting your twists. Start with your liquid spray leave in conditioner or just plain water. Add a little oil to seal in your moisture and then add your cream on top. I prefer a cream that has a slight hold to help give my twists some shape
In each section you might have 5-10 twists depending on how small your twists are but make sure your hair is nicely covered in product but not so much that your hair is weighed down. If you have fine hair this is especially important for you.
4. Add perm rods to the ends
This is optional but I always recommend using a perm rods or small Flexi rods at the ends of each twist because you can smooth your ends and create a uniformed look to your twists. Additionally, the smoother your ends are the easier it is for you to avoid single strand knots.
5. Allow the twists to dry
This is absolutely important to avoid frizzy twist outs with no definition. Use an overhead dryer to speed up drying time if you have somewhere to go.
6. Release and pick the roots
Once your hair is dry all you need to do is unravel the twists and without creating frizz use your CarbonAR pick to lift the roots to create more volume and eliminate any parting lines.
As the week goes on your hair will become bigger and bigger which means that it is important to cover your hair with a satin bonnet at night to help your hair maintain its moisture.
As the week progresses, you can add accessories to your hair and create cute styles with your hair that will last all week long.
